Corporate Goes Cultural: Why LinkedIn Chose a Recording Studio Over a Conference Center

An Artist For Artist® case study

Most corporate leadership events happen in hotels, conference centers or sterile meeting rooms. LinkedIn wanted something different. For their Exec Connect series, they wanted to bring senior leaders into a room where the conversation felt real and where the setting itself had something to say. They tapped Artist For Artist® to make it happen.

We co-produced LinkedIn Exec Connect: Shaping the Spotlight at Power Station at BerkleeNYC, one of the most iconic recording studios in New York City. Here's what went into it:

The Venue Is the First Creative Decision

Power Station has hosted sessions featuring everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Madonna. That history is in the walls. We turned the legendary live room into an intimate event salon, using custom neon signage, deep blue florals, vintage speakers, and instruments to ground the space in the studio's heritage. The result was a room that felt like it belonged to the evening. For brands considering experiential formats for executive audiences, this is the lesson worth remembering: the venue sets the tone before anyone says a word.

Program Around a Real Point of View

The evening was anchored by a fireside chat with Alissia, a GRAMMY-nominated Producer of the Year and one of only nine women ever nominated for the honor. Her career spans work with Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Calvin Harris, Prince, and Anderson .Paak. The creative thesis of the night was that the best leaders, like the best producers, shape the spotlight rather than stand in it. They cut through noise, set direction, and elevate the people around them. That parallel made the conversation something beyond what a regular keynote and Q&A can accomplish. It was a real exchange between worlds, guided by someone whose work made the metaphor tangible.

Give People Something to Take With Them

We built a "Produced by Alissia Record Shop" into the event space, spotlighting vinyl from her catalog with Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Calvin Harris & 21 Savage, and NxWorries. Every guest chose one record to take home. A small detail, but it did two things: it extended the story of the evening into something physical, and it gave guests a reason to linger and talk to each other. The best activations create those moments. Not forced networking: just a reason to stay a little longer.

Corporate events don't have to feel corporate. At LinkedIn Exec Connect: Shaping the Spotlight, we built a "record shop" (pictured) to spark excitement and conversation.

Capture. Everything.

We ran full content capture across the night: photography, video, and post-event sizzle reels built for LinkedIn's owned channels. The event lasted a few hours. The content it produced extends the conversation well beyond the room.

The Takeaway for Brands

Executive audiences are hard to impress and easy to lose. The events that land with them are the ones that respect their time, have a genuine point of view, and feel considered down to every detail. A conference room with catering won't do it. A room with history, a creative thesis that connects to their work, and an experience designed to feel personal rather than produced? That's the format.

At Artist For Artist®, we produce intimate, high-touch events for brands that want something beyond the standard playbook. If you're planning a leadership event, client dinner, or executive activation and want it to actually resonate, reach out at artistforartist.com.
